What happens at a Wedding Consultation?

If you’re looking for some additional help with your wedding plans and you are considering hiring a wedding planner, the first thing to do with a potential wedding planner is to arrange a wedding consultation. But ‘what is a wedding consultation?’, I hear you ask!

While I can’t speak for every planner out there, here’s a run down of what to expect during a wedding consultation with Event Curation by Victoria…

You had me at hello…

So you’ve dropped me an email, called or DMed me to say ‘hi’, I’ll firstly check if you have a wedding date set, to ensure myself or my time is available. Once that’s confirmed we’ll set the date for your consultation. This typically happens on a video call - I know you are busy and may not be able to free up several hours to travel somewhere to meet face to face, so a video call tends to work well. It’s particularly convenient for our Destination wedding clients, oceans and time zones might part us, but we can still connect on a call and get to know your plans a little better. This is a relaxed conversation so we can all get to know each other, one of the key roles of a consultation is ensuring we all get along and I’m the right planner for you. Then we’ll move on to what’s important to you and the wedding details.

It’s all in the details…

Then we’ll talk about your wedding, there are three key things I need to know at this early stage:

  1. Roughly how many guests will be attending

  2. Venue ideas

  3. Your budget

Budget can sometimes feel like the scary one; planning a wedding is an unknown to you, so along with that are some unknown costs. But for me and my time, this is everyday. We know how to make the most out of every budget we work with. So the best place to start is to have an honest conversation as a couple about how much you really want to spend on your wedding day. What things are really important to you and where are you willing to compromise? Be honest with us and realistic about your budget - and we can most certainly help you stick to it!

For those looking for a Partial Wedding Planning Service or Wedding Management, we’ll also likely cover what and who is already booked in. It’s great to have an overview of the team already in place.

The second proposal

Once we finish talking wedding details, I’ll tell you a little more about me and how I work, and you can ask anything you like.  We’ll then talk through services that are likely to suit your needs and what happens next… The proposal (take two!) You’ve asked the all important question, now it’s my turn to propose. I’ll put together a bespoke proposal for you, this will include details of what we discuss in the consultation and a quotation for planning services. I usually try to provide a few options for you (where appropriate) to build the right service for you.

They said Yes!

Once you’ve decided on which option is right for you, we’ll get that all confirmed. There will be a deposit to pay and contract to sign, then we can get started planning your wedding!

Feeling ready to book your consultation? Fabulous! We can’t wait to hear about your plans, all our details can be found here… simply get in touch and we can get your consultation booked in!
